GIS Training Experience

In July, I had the privilege of delivering an intensive training program in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for a diverse group of participants from mixed nationalities. This specially-structured training aimed to provide participants with in-depth, applied knowledge of advanced tools and techniques in GIS, with a special focus on spatial representation and analysis.

Highlights of the Training

Among the participants, I would like to highlight the dedication of the following individuals:

  • José Madolo
  • Pedro Samuel Mbata
  • Heraldo Rihia
  • Italino Mbazima

Their commitment and excellence stood out throughout the sessions. They demonstrated exceptional understanding of GIS concepts and applied practical skills to solve problems in real-world scenarios.

Case Study: Chimanimani National Park

The first session of the training was dedicated to introducing the fundamental concepts of GIS, with a specific focus on the spatial representation of Chimanimani National Park. This park, located in a region of significant ecological importance, served as an ideal case study to demonstrate the practical application of geospatial analysis techniques.

Participants explored topics such as:

  • Digital Cartography
  • Thematic Map Creation
  • Elevation Analysis

Individual Projects

As the training progressed, each participant developed unique projects reflecting their skills and creativity:

  • José Madolo: Created a detailed elevation model of the region.
  • Pedro Samuel Mbata: Designed a thematic map showcasing biodiversity hotspots.
  • Heraldo Rihia: Conducted an analysis on land use changes.
  • Italino Mbazima: Produced a hydrological network analysis.

Testimonials

Below are the participants' comments about their experience, along with visual examples of their remarkable projects:

José Madolo
